Stanford Prison Experiment

The Stanford Prison Experiment was a study conducted in 1971, which researched the psychological effects of becoming a prisoner and prison guard. Twenty-four students were selected to take on randomly assigned roles of prisoners and guards in a mock prison. The participants adapted to their roles well beyond expectations, as the guards enforced authoritative measures and subjected some of the prisoners to psychological torture. The students were placed in a different life and in a different environment. This caused them to change drastically to adapt in this new life style. This experiment was a good example of how much a change of landscape can change a person in such a short period of time.

Boxing Day Tsunami

This picture of the aftermath created by a tsunami is a good example of how quickly a landscape can change. People's homes were drastically changed by this natural disaster. The sudden change in environment also changed the lives of people who lived there. Their homes were destroyed.

Imaginative Landscape

An imaginative landscape is the meaning we give to a physical landscape. It is through our perspective we see a landscape. Our perspective is influences by our thoughts and feelings.

Many personal factors influence our view of a landscape

  • Culture
  • Tradition
  • Values
  • Morals
  • Beliefs
  • Religion
  • Emotions
  • Attitude
  • Experiences
  • Choices
  • Career
  • Lifestyles
'For me a landscape does not exist in its own right, since its appearances changes at every moment; but the surrounding atmosphere brings it to life - the light and the air which vary continually. For me, it is only the surrounding atmosphere which gives subjects their true value." - Claude Monet (French painter, initiator and the leader of the impressionist style)

Mean Girls

Mean Girls (2004)
American Teen Comedy - Directed by Mark Waters

Mean Girls is a movie based on a non-fiction book 'Queen Bees and Wannabes' by Rosalind Wiseman. The movie is about how female high school social cliques work and what affects they can have on girls. It centers on Cady Heron, a 16 year old home schooled daughter of zoologist parents. They have returned to the United States after a 12-year research trip in Africa. In the beginning of the movie, Cady is a very nice and polite girl. Living in Africa, meant that Cady had never had an experience of an average American high school. However, once she is placed in this new environment, she completely changes. She changes her appearance and attitude in order to survive in this landscape. She continues to mold herself into a 'plastic'. This movie is a great example of how a landscape can change the lives of people who live there.
